Career counselling is the process of guiding and helping in planning their career by understanding the requirements of an individual and suggesting career options based on their interest and scope of the field. In the past Indians were unaware of the concept of school career counselling, but now most of them have embraced it.
Every student has a unique quality, and it is essential to imbibe that quality and steer it in the right direction. Career counselling has a significant impact in shaping the future of students in India. It has become an essential factor to determine their true potential and guide them towards their career goals.
I struggled to choose the right career path. The main reason for this was that there was never any guidance and it did not help in deciding what to choose. Most parents felt that engineering, medicine, CA and law were the only beneficial career options for students. This was due to lack of awareness and improper guidance. Now, this is where career counsellors stepped in and created awareness among students and parents.
Many students chose a career path based on the most preferred profession among their friends or a profession suggested by their parents. They followed the usual conservatism, which was being followed for years. They didn’t think about what they really liked until it was too late. This often led to disappointment later in his life.
Career advice for students of classes 9-12 should be clearly given in school as this is a stage that helps students choose a specific stream as their specialization. This is because many students are not happy with the stream they have chosen and change it; this happens without proper guidelines about accessible options.

Based on tests an online group career counselling was conducted by the Aspire Foundation under supervision of Ms. Prarthan Mishra, Photometric Expert on 03/05/2024. Career counselling in schools gives the right support to the students to avoid any confusion and prevent them from treading on the wrong path. Psychometric testing essentially depicts the merits and shortcomings of the students and demonstrates their aptitudes and interests.
